Why would the pump be sucking air? CircuPool SmartFlo® Variable Speed Pool Pump - 1.7 THP Pumps

On about 3rd year with 1.5 hp VFD pump. Has begun sucking air. Where do I look for leaks. Replaced o-ring in lid, but still issue although seal around lid seems poor. At lower RPM, even more issues with air.

On a variable speed pump it can be normal to see a visible air gap in the strainer lid when running on lower rpm’s. At full speed you should see water all the way to the top of the strainer lid but as rpm’s are lowered the water level will also lower.

However, if the pump is sucking air it is typically due to things like a leak "upstream" on the suction side of the pump's plumbing, or things suck as too low of a water level in the pool.
