Depending on the severity of the build up, or the weakness of the cleaning solution, it is possible for there to be severe build up so that a cell may need to be cleaned up to 3-4 times in a row. As the cleaning solution dissolves the scaling, it loses its acidity.
This is not typical however. If you find that it needs cleaning more than once a month and/or regularly needs back-to-back cleanings (and you are using properly mixed cleaning solution), that’s a sign that your water chemistry has a high LSI (Langelier Saturation Index), which you can fix and balance (see link below for some information about this water chemistry).
