Owners of CircuPool SmartFlo Variable Speed Pumps (VSP) are faced with a decision regarding how long to run their pump. Happily, with the large savings in electricity from a VSP, you can circulate your pool longer - even around the clock - and still save electricity. While you can't improve on the circulation and filtration associated with running the pump 24 hours per day, it is not necessary to do so. Minimally, your pump should run long enough to "turnover" the water at least once. In other words, the pump should run long enough to move the same number of gallons as the pool itself. If you know your flow rate - gallons per minute or hour - you can calculate the necessary runtime. Absent the actual flow rate, you can generally get by with running the circulation system 8-10 hours per day, or roughly 1 hour for every 10 degrees of water temperature. The bottom line: the longer you run your CircuPool SmartFlo Variable Speed Pool Pump, the better your water quality.
