The clear viewing port on the Strainer Cover for a CircuPool SmartFlo Series Variable Speed Pump will be loose when it is not installed, but will not move when installed correctly with the O-ring in place. If the clear viewing port moves when installed with your new O-ring, then you should call us weekdays at (888) 206-9938 between 9-4:30 Central for assistance.
Regarding your priming problem, it is important to distinguish between losing prime and merely seeing air at the top of the Strainer Cover when running at one of the lower speeds. A quick easy test is to engage the Quick Clean function on the pump's Control Module and watch for water to leak out from around the Strainer Cover. If you don't have water being forced out around the strainer cover, then you aren't drawing in air at lower speeds either.
If you still feel that you have a problem staying primed, then call us (as above) for further assistance.
