We do recommend removing the salt cell for the winter time. During the winter time the saturation index of the water can drop significantly due to the water temperature and this can reduce the life of the cell. If you are using a heater and keeping the pool temps warm then you wouldn't need to worry about removing the cell. Also, if water temperature does not drop below approximately 60 degrees then you should also be safe to leave the cell in place.
