New SmartFlo AF pump models are Adaptive Flow pumps, which allow you to set a target flow rate (GPM) for any programmed operation (instead of an arbitrary motor speed in RPM). This allows you to be in control of the results you are getting - ensuring your pump isn't running too hard / too little to provide proper circulation (1-2 turnovers a day) and keep flow rates within ideal ranges for your pool plumbing and your pool equipment. Even better, once you select your desired flow, the pump automatically adjusts motor output to help maintain that flow as system conditions change. As filters load with debris, valves are adjusted, or heaters engage and disengage, most pumps drift away from optimal performance.
