The CircuPool Universal Series of Salt Chlorinators is a "self-cleaning" system, which means that it periodically reverses the direction the electric current flows serving to dislodge scale deposits on the salt cell and significantly reducing the frequency of cell cleanings (acid washing).
This reversal of the current direction is more formally referred to as "Switching Polarities" and on your System Status display the one current direction/polarity is considered "Positive" and the other as "Negative" and is reflected on the display as a positive number or a negative number, respectively.
