No, that’s not typical for a flow switch to fail after only a few months of use.
Before replacing it again, I would recommend removing the flow switch from the t-fitting and checking for any debris that could be preventing it from reading properly.
When reinstalling, make sure the arrow on the flow switch is pointing in the direction of water flow.
