the flow switch should just xxxx into the existing portal correct? also, i am concerned because the existing switch that i have has a fine cord coming out of it, not a telephone type cord. i am not sure how this fine cord is connected to the panel

Our flow switches used in the RJ+ and Universal Series' of Salt chlorinators is compatible with that used in a Hayward AquaRite. Both ours and the OEM AquaRite switches have in our experience used a flat cord such as most of us remember from older landline phones. If your has a somewhat different looking cord, we assume is still functions the same and may well have been a generic replacement itself.
