You should of course not see dirt or debris inside the cell, but mineral scaling accumulates at a rate based on the balance your water chemistry - specifically your Saturation Index level (LSI). Typically, with a balanced LSI (-0.2 to +0.2) you should need to clean your cell seasonally. It is worth checking your LSI to ensure your water is not imbalanced on the negative side of its scale (less than -0.2), which is corrosive. While mineral scaling may not form, it means that your pool and equipment and surfaces may be experiencing aggressive water / erosion / etching of surfaces / etc... You also don't want a high LSI (greater than +0.2), which can cause heavy scaling. It could also be possible that you are only slightly negative, and the combination of reduced scaling and the system's reverse polarity feature is knocking off mineral scaling faster than it is accumulating.
