Does the chlorinator need to have water circulating through it continuously? My pool has a timer to run about 8 hours a day. Does the unit need to be oversized for this?

The Universal series has a flow switch and will only generate chlorine when the pump is moving water through the plumbing. When the pump is off the unit is in standby until the flow switch is activated again. It is always a good idea to oversize the chlorine generator 1.5-2 times the size of your pool to ensure you have enough chlorine output in the summer. If you do only run the pump 8 hours that is another good reason to oversize the equipment.
