If before adding a salt chlorine generator you've been dealing with high CYA, this typically happens because chlorine tablets have this built in. CYA doesn't really dissipate, so over time the use of chlorine tablets causes rising CYA levels. When using a chlorine generator, it only adds pure chlorine, so the only reason the CYA would go up at that point would be if you are manually adding it. CYA for any pool needs to be typically in the 30-50ppm range. To little and the sun quickly depletes the chlorine, too much and it greatly slows the rate at which chlorine kills microorganisms making it ineffective.
If your pool is properly bonded, a sacrificial anode is not typically required just because you are adding a chlorine generator. Without proper bonding of any pool, a small stray electrical current (galvanic reaction) can be generated in a pool because of the presence of multiple types of metal, even when the pool is not running. Adding an anodes is an easy way to provide proper bonding if this was not done when the pool was built of if the pool is no longer properly bonded for any reason.
