As of late, I've been experiencing a need to add 2-3 cups of muriatic acid per day. Is this excessive?

To keep my chemistry right, I need to add 2-3 cups of acid a day, which I've read is excessive and could be caused by excessive off-gassing of the chlorine generator. I remember not too long ago, adding 2-3 cups per week, or at the most a few times a week. Now it's every day.

That is certainly a big change from before, but there may be other changes to your water and pool use that could factor in. The first thing to check for is high Total Alkalinity. An increase in surface activity or aeration can also push pH up. Have you run a water feature more lately. Address those issues and consider adding borates to your pool water - 30-50 ppm - and allow it to resist pH increases. If you continue to have difficulties, obtain a fresh water test and call us at (888) 206-9938 Mon-Thu: 9-4:30 or Fri: 9-3PM Central and a member of our support team will assist you.
