Chlorinators do not work in cold temperatures, the reason for this is due to low conductivity. The water acts as the conduit to pass electricity from plate to plate inside the salt cell, when the water temperatures are too low the water itself cannot conduct electricity as efficiently and makes it very hard for the chlorinator to make chlorine. The cell has a temperature sensor and will shut the cell down once temperatures get too low to prevent any damage to the cell. Normally your water will not be turning green and low temperatures but if it is we recommend using liquid chlorine in the pool until the temperatures warm back up.
