Yes. Absolutely.
Your RJ-Plus control module should power on regardless of salt level. With zero salt:
- It will still turn on
- It just won’t generate chlorine
- You’d typically see a “low salt” or “check salt” indicator
2) Why is the breaker tripping?
This is the part where things get a little less “user error” and a little more “something’s not wired or behaving right.”
A breaker tripping instantly usually points to one of these:
🔌 A. Wiring issue (most common)Even if your pump runs fine on that 240V line, the salt system might not be wired correctly.
Common problems:
- Line and load reversed
- Neutral/ground issue (even on 240V setups)
- Incorrect connection at the timer
- Bonding wire touching something it shouldn’t
Salt systems are… picky. They don’t just “figure it out.”
When you go through the MENU you should see the first number pop up as the water temperature. Is that over 70 degrees? Then look at the VOLTS. Is the VOLTAGE reading between 20-30 volts?
