Be sure follow all instructions on the label when handling acid, wear personal protective equipment, and protect your property from spills or drips. Always add acid to water, never water to acid. Rinse the cell thoroughly afterward.
For example, if using a stand or cap, the amount may be approximately as follows. At a 4:1 ratio, start with 32 oz of water, in a container, then slowly add 8 oz of muriatic acid to the water. Pour this into the cell. If that is not enough to cover the plates, make a little more using the same ratio—for example, 4 oz water + 1 oz acid.
For example, if using a bucket, the amount may be similar to the example that follows. At a 4:1 ratio, start with 128 oz of water, in a container, then slowly add 32 oz of muriatic acid to the water. Pour this into the bucket. If that is not enough to cover the plates, make a little more using the same ratio—for example, 16 oz water + 4 oz acid. This can especially vary based on the size of your bucket.
