Can the salt cell remain attached during winter? CircuPool RJ-PLUS Series Salt Chlorine Generators - Owner Resources RJ PLUS Series

I live in Minnesota, and it's common practice to blow out the lines during the closing as your winterization instructions suggest. I'm just wondering if the salt cell is ok being in the extreme cold all winter (with no water in it, of course), or is it better to disconnect it and store it inside where the temperature is much warmer? Will that extend the life at all, or do you recommend just leaving it connected in the cold?

Generally speaking, you should continue to follow all local procedures for winterization. For anything in the plumbing, such as a salt cell, the important part ensuring no water is present and completely drained/blown out. Freezing water can damage the cell just as it can damage pool plumbing. If properly protected, the cell can remain in place, or for extra security, a bypass cell can be put in place. The control module can typically remain in place.

If your closing method leaves any doubt that the cell housing is fully cleared—because of a difficult plumbing layout, for example—removing the cell and storing it dry indoors is a reasonable extra precaution.
