The flow switch in a CircuPool CORE salt chlorinator will activate / deactivate its chlorine generation based on water flow. It can be additionally beneficial to have a salt chlorinator on its own timer (such as a simple plug-in timer in this instance) in order to provide both additional control and an additional way to ensure the equipment operates in sync (ensuring the timer is programmed to run within the pump's scheduled run times). For example, both the salt chlorinator's chlorine output setting and its run time together determine the amount of chlorine generated for the pool; if a pump is given very long run times, it can be beneficial to run the salt chlorinator for only a portion of the pump's long daily run times.
