No it's not important. The system can be oriented horizonal, vertically, or anywhere in between.
Is the orientation of the unit important? The plumbing I want to install it into is roughly horizontal but I would prefer that the head of the control unit was 90% from vertical CircuPool® Classic Combo (Salt Chlorinator + Pump) CORE Series
