For salt chlorinators in general, and certainly the CircuPool SJ-A series, the initial start up can yield flashing or changing Flow light until the water flow stabilizes and, along with it, the light. With respect to the recommendations for straight pipe ahead of the switch, it is important to meet the recommendations if at all possible, but perhaps not strictly required.
