The main consideration is to protect a chlorine generator from freeze damage. As long as water is not present inside of the unit during freezing conditions, the unit can be outside. Optionally, you can choose to take the Controller / Cell out and use the available Winter Cap to reattach to where those items were removed from their plumbing housing. Some pool owners elect to do this in northern climates.
