Is it ok for the chlorine generator to stay powered on 24 hours a day while the pool pump only runs about 10 hours?

I want to make sure letting the unit sit idle (no water flow) while powered on is not detrimental. When the pump kicks on, it will sense the water flow and then start generating chlorine. This is an older unit, and in the past I have used an electronic timer that the unit is plugged into regulate when it turns on and off.

It is common practice for owners of CircuPool CORE Series Salt Chlorinators to maintain power to the unit and rely on the flow switch to start and stop chlorine generation. However, the use of an outdoor timer does provide an extra degree of security.
