For an outdoor pool, your CYA, or stabilizer, should be kept in the range of 30-50 ppm to protect the chlorine in the water from the ravages of sunlight. Anything below 30 is inadequate and anything above 50 adds no further protection from the sun and only serves to reduce the efficacy of your pool's chlorine.
