Yes, while the CORE55 can be used on a 16,000-gallon pool, consider a few factors such as the following. You control the ultimate chlorine output of the system in two ways, the chlorine output setting on its controller and the amount of run time you give it. If you have longer pump run times and/or if the level of chlorine demand of the swimming pool is relatively low, it is technically possible that even on the lowest setting it produces more chlorine than is required to maintain 1-3ppm free chlorine in the water. If this is the case, then you could put the CORE55 on its on timer, which you program to operate within the pump's overall circulation times but for less overall hours, in order to further tailor its ultimate chlorine output.
In general, oversizing gives you useful reserve capacity (you can "turn it up" on demand) for periods of higher chlorine demand—such as after bad weather or heavy pool sue—and allows normal operation at a lower output setting and/or fewer operating hours. Because cell life is based largely on total chlorine-production time, this can help extend the cell’s service life.
Test free chlorine regularly and adjust the output setting or generator run time as needed.
